Azlan Shah Al Bakri is currently serving as the Director General of the Land Public Transport Agency, the authority for land public transport in Malaysia under the Ministry of Transport. He has led the agency since its establishment on 1 January 2019 as the Deputy Director General (Operations) and subsequently appointed as its Director General in April 2019.
He previously held several positions at Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (Land Public Transport Commission), the predecessor of APAD. During his time in SPAD, he led the Express Bus Transformation Lab which culminated in the Express Bus Transformation Program, a program aiming at improving the Express Bus industry in terms of safety and services. Earlier, he successfully managed key Government Public Transport Projects, such as the Stage Bus Service Transformation, GoKL and the Interim Stage Bus Support Fund which also involved securing funding from the government for its annual contract value of approximately RM200 mil. He was also instrumental in establishing SPAD’s Regional and State Offices throughout Peninsular Malaysia between 2012 and 2015.
Prior to joining the public transport authority, he was the Operations Director/General Manager of several multinational retailer where he provided strategic leadership in the development and implementation of best practices, standards, systems, policies and procedures to maximise productivity and operational effectiveness. He was also previously attached to several financial institutions specializing in risk management and risk based audit.
An accounting graduate from Portsmouth University, United Kingdom and holder of MBA in Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia, Azlan has vast experience in audit & internal controls, risk management, business recovery, service & operational performance, project management and strategic development.
